Frequently Asked Questions

How much do your services cost?

Pricing of the service will depend on the service itself, taking into account its complexity and completion time. For example, 20 hours of strategy sessions mixed with a set of deliverables could run $2,000 to $2,500. If the service helps solve a problem and gies your business the boost it needs, this is money well spent. For individual assignments such as hiring and managing a photographer, the cost would involve the photographer’s fee and my assignment fee of $250.

Do you do all the work or do you have a team?

As an independent contractor, I have a dedicated group of specialists in their field who assist me when required; other times, my role involves sourcing the professionals, vetting them, and managing their workflow. Larger projects require a team of people to work together while I oversee the development of the project. It’s not unusual to see me handling some of the work myself since I have amassed plenty of hands-on skills over the years.

Do you charge for the initial consultation?

No. The initial consultation is an opportunity for you to share the challenges your business faces so I can ask the right questions and offer a solution moving forward. The consultation is up to an hour in length, either by phone or in person.

Am I required to sign a contract?

Yes. Contracts secure your and my best interests in a business transaction. Work does not begin until the paperwork is signed and a deposit received. There are two types of contracts: consulting agreements for long-term projects and freelance agreements for assignment-based work.

Who is responsible for expenses incurred during a project?

Most hard expenses such as the purchase of equipment, software, and inventory are borne by the business owner. Expenses I incur to conduct my work are usually covered by me; if travel if required, and depending on the timely nature of the expense, it may have been included in the overall consulting fee. All additional expenses not originally discussed must be approved by the client. You will never be surprised by a random expense on a monthly invoice.

Who owns the intellectual property developed for my business?

All intellectual property developed or produced under an Agreement is the sole property of the Client. Intellectual property can be anything designed, conceived, or enforced that is used to operate or promote your business. Any publishing of this content on my website is for promotional purposes only and a disclaimer will be added to that effect.

Can I terminate a contract early?

It depends, but typically a contract must be fulfilled unless there are mitigating circumstances to warrant a termination. The delivery of my ideas, vision, and expertise are associated with the consulting services and fees outlined in the contract so to terminate early will leave my own intellectual property on the table to be potentially assumed — and misrepresented — by a third party. In some cases, a buyout can be negotiated. However, you can terminate an agreement within ten (10) days after receiving a copy of the signed agreement as per your right under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
