Tiny Township Short Term Rental Changes

By January 16, 2023February 16th, 2023Tiny Township2 min read

It’s no surprise that Tiny Township has finally tightened the belt on how short term rentals are operated and regulated. On August 11, 2022, Council passed By-Law #22-017 to establish regulations and registration requirements for short term rentals in the Township. There is a lot of information to read if you now wish to apply for a licence — that is, IF you can get one.

You’ve read correctly. Tiny Township is limiting its issued licences to 300.

The Township has a dedicated short term rental page with all the info you need. Bookmark it and keep an eye out for updates. Here is a snippet from that page:

Short-Term Rental Licence Applications are being accepted until a total of 300 Applications have been received. Once 300 Licence Applications have been received, the application process will be closed until the number of Licences issued falls below the 300 limit set out in By-law 22-017, as amended.

Is it Possible to Get a Licence Right Now?

If the information on the page looks too confusing, I recommend you read the three (3) press releases they have posted. They are not clearly marked so for reference, look for the ones dated:

  • August 23, 2022
  • September 28, 2022
  • November 17, 2022

Then, check out By-Law #022-017 for twenty (20) wonderful pages of fun-in-the-sun reading. In my opinion, the terms and requirements are probably going to turn off most applicants, especially since property owners will only be allowed a maximum of ninety-two (92) combined rental days per year.

If You Break the Rules, You Will be Punished

Another endearing term from the By-Law is the Demerit Point System that’s in place for “offenders.” I’ll leave this up to you to discover the details and decide for yourself whether applying for a short term rental in Tiny Township is worth the money, time, and effort.

Good luck!

PS: there is a $1,500 non-refundable Application Fee, plus applicable service fees, in Step 1 of the process.
